DESCRIPTION & COMPOSITION

Lavender Home (max. 12 persons) is a fine holiday home situated in the quiet valley of Recht, in the German-speaking part of the Belgian Ardennes. The region is known for being an ideal hiking area. In the neighborhood lie such tourist highlights as the Palace of Stavelot and the High Fens nature reserve. Lavender Home is a detached house which was built in the 19th century and thoroughly renovated in 2004. The traditional 1 m thick stone walls have been preserved, but thanks to the newly built French doors and large windows, the house is very light and sunny. On the southern side of the house there is a 300 m deep garden which ends with a brook and a fish pond complete with a romantic corner where you can sit and relax. The garden has two ponds, a sunny meadow with playground facilities for children and a lot of fragrant lavender!

The accommodation layout is as follows. Downstairs: Kitchen-cum-living room with 2 fridges, an electric oven, a dishwasher and a large dining table; sitting area with a cable TV; spacious hall with a play corner for children; bedroom No. 1 furnished with a bunk bed and a library complete with a snug reading corner; bedroom No. 2 furnished with a bunk bed, a king size bed, a small child bed and a folding crib; and two bathrooms, one with a toilet, shower and washing machine, the other with a toilet and bathtub. There is a terrace which faces south and has steps leading to the garden from where you have a view of the outdoor playground. Upstairs: Three double bedrooms (2 x double bed and 2 x single bed). The toilet is located in the hall. There is a small balcony which faces north and a large roof terrace with a barbecue on the southern side. Amenities for children include: bunk beds, a bedstead, a folding playpen, highchair and an indoor play corner with games. Outdoors: a playground with swings, sand box, etc. Additional facilities: a library (mostly Dutch books) with a snug reading corner, a washing machine and a dishwasher, an oven and a microwave. Pets are welcome at no extra charge (maximum 1 per accommodation).

CADRE DU LOGEMENT ET ACTIVITÉS

Recht is famous for being an excellent hiking area. Within half an hours drive lies the High Fens nature reserve (Hoge Venen or Haute Fagnes), which comprises more than 4000 ha and has splendid hiking routes through a unique heath and moor area. In the vicinity you will find cultural highlights such as the bishop's palace of Stavelot (with three museums and lovely cafés), the crusade of Malmedy and the castle of Reinhardstein / reservoir of Robertville. Adventurous trips bring you to the waterfalls of Coo (with many attractions for children) or the world?s largest labyrinth in Trois Point (on the Ambleve River where you can go kayaking, mountain biking and/or cliff climbing). You can also go to Thermae 2000 in Bad Valkenburg; take a boat trip through the caves of Remouchamps; enjoy a ?working? visit to the coal mines of Blegny; take a ride to Krippana (which takes its name from ?Krippe? which means ?crib? and is Europe?s largest exposition of cribs) in Manderfeld; or visit one of the numerous museums in the neighbourhood. For children there is an indoor swimming pool close to the house. A nice playground and (swimming) ponds can be found 10 minutes away (on foot). The recreational holiday center in Butgenbach is 20 minutes away. Trips to the labyrinth of Trois Point, the waterfalls of Coo, the fairytale forest of Valkenburg and the car racing tracks of Francorchamps (or the Circuit Museum in the Abbey of Stavelot) are an absolute must. You can go by car to La Roche and the Ardennes, the beating heart of the Ardennes ? the walled town of Durbuy or Lieges with its Sunday market and countless places of interest. You can also cross the border to three countries: the Netherlands (Valkenburg or Maastricht), Germany (for example to the historical town of Monschau or the town of Aachen with its thermal springs, a zoo and a modern art museum) and/or Luxemburg with its wonderful castles and forests.
